Head Coach Announcements

West Kelowna Minor Hockey would like to announce the following appointments

for our head coaching at our top Bantam, Peewee and Atom Teams:

Bantam Tier 2- Nick Deschenes

Nick has several years of experience most recently with the Trail Smoke Eaters of the BCHL. He coached and managed the Grand Forks Border Bruins rebuilding that program and has extensive knowledge of video coaching and player game evaluations. His coaching skills are matched by his training skills and will build a program reflective of what top Bantam players need. Conditioning, skills, skating and team play in today’s version of the game are absolutely crucial for all our top players at this age to learn and Nick offers the ability to do that with a non-parent, non-associated view.

As Bantam is a pivotal age in a hockey player’s development hiring a non parent paid coach became an objective for the Hockey Operations Department. After reviewing parent’s comments and concerns, seeing the desired direction within and outside our association we were happy to recruit and hire Nick. Any questions on cost can be directed to James Rayburn at

With that here’s what our new coach has to say:

I'm very excited to join the WKMHA as coach of the Bantam Tier 2 team.  After 4 years coaching in the Kootenays, I have decided for family reasons to call West Kelowna home and I'm excited to join such an organized and progressive association.  I look forward to helping develop and prepare these players to be accountable and responsible young men that can strive to reach their potential both academically and athletically while learning the value of competition and team sports.  I have been fortunate to have received an education and earn a living playing the sport I love.  I look forward to passing along my knowledge and experience to the next generation of student athletes.

Atom A - Tyler Bouck

Tyler coached our Atom C team last season and did a fantastic job of developing those players for the next level of competition. Both team and individual success were had and the vision of development hockey within our association was more then met. Tyler's professional hockey career and knowledge of the game can not be understated, he strives for equal opportunity ice and player development and communicates his expectations to players and parents. We look forward to the season as he develops our top players in the Atom age group.

Peewee Tier 2 - Alex Hill

Alex returns as our head coach of the Peewee Tier 2 program. Our Peewee Tier 2 represented the association well last year throughout OMAHA and its tournament schedule. Through skill development and fast paced practices Alex brings a wealth of coaching experience and development plans to the rink. Alex is a firm but fair communicator and has a high expectation of the players as they transition from development hockey (Atom) to representation hockey. We are excited to have Alex back and in the fold for another season.

We would also like to thank all our Atom and Peewee applicants and those who were chosen for the final interview stage. Without the volunteers and the passionate hockey people this association doesn't happen. Your time is appreciated and valued!

Bantam and Midget Coaching Announcements -TBA

We are currently in a holding pattern due to a possible change in the Tiered/Representation format within OMAHA.

We ask for your patience and understanding through this time frame. It was not our intention to delay to this point of the summer but it was something that came of necessity do to the situation and proposal.
