New OMAHA League Start Dates

Aug. 24, 2017

Okanagan Mainline Hockey Association (OMAHA) has approved a new season and playoff format, meaning Rep and Recreation leagues will start and finish the season later.

Regular season games begin the weekend of October 13 for Rep leagues and the weekend of October 19 for Recreation leagues.

Rep teams will play league games until the weekend of February 23 -25, 2018. There will then be tournaments at every level on March 2-4, 2018. The tournament winner will win the OMAHA banner and go to Provincials.

Bantam and Midget Recreation teams will play regular season games until March 2-4, 2018. A tournament will be scheduled for the weekend of March 9-11. 2018. Tournament winners will represent the South at OMAHA districts March 16-18, 2018.

The change does not affect playoffs for our Atom and Peewee Recreation leagues. Atom and Peewee league winners will go the Districts March 16-18, 2018.

WKMHA supports this change, as it means kids are playing hockey longer and more in line with the hockey season rather than being eliminated from playoffs on the first weekend in February. The new format means all teams play the same number of games over the same amount of time. It also allows for teams to go to February tournaments should they wish.

More details on the tournaments and season standings, etc will be available in the coming weeks.
