LESSONS FROM BEHIND THE GLASS
BC Hockey strives to provide a positive minor hockey experience by encouraging parents, coaches, officials and players to demonstrate good sportsmanship at practices and games, on and off the ice. We also strive to instill positive character-building traits in our players through good sportsmanship, respect for others, responsibility, fairness, caring and good citizenship.
It's easy for parents to get caught up in their kid's hockey game or practice and engage in behaviour that contradicts the objectives BC Hockey embodies. With hockey season right around the corner, it's time we offer some helpful advice to hockey parents, from a hockey mom, so we can create a positive atmosphere in arenas across BC and the Yukon.
BC Hockey launched the Lessons From Behind the Glass video series in September 2016 and the feedback we received last season was so spectacular, we are re-launching this season. We encourage all parents to watch the videos and reflect on the "lessons" each video demonstrates. The video series was created based on the book by author Allyson Tufts.
With appearances from Vancouver Canucks President of Operations, Trevor Linden, and Canucks alumni, Kirk McLean, numerous BC Hockey coaches, parents, players and officials, the video series offers real testimonies. Tufts provides the framework of each lesson, while the honest truths and stories back up each point, providing a valuable look into the world of minor hockey.
With video titles such as "Parents See Hockey Through a Different Set of Eyes" and "Raise a Good Person Who Likes to Play Hockey, Not Just a Good Hockey Player," Lessons From Behind the Glass covers a wide range of issues facing hockey parents.
